United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs

United Nation’s Commission¬†on Narcotic Drugs (UNCND) is a commission which comes under the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The commission of narcotic drugs was established by ECOSOC to supervise the application of international drug control treaties. It monitors and works towards integrated and balanced strategies to recommend measures addressing world drug problems. It is basically a policy-making body comprising of 53 member states. At CND, the member states discuss the issues related to drugs and take measures to curb them. CND is also the final decision maker on proposals by the World Health Organization (WHO) to schedule, de-schedule or re-schedule a drug.¬†

 

Agenda I: Access to controlled drugs for medical purpose while preventing diversion and abuse.
Agenda II: Regulating the precursors and non-scheduled precursor chemicals used in the illicit manufacture of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
